Over the past year, the Priory School PE Department has made significant progress in developing the quality and consistency of its curriculum. The Key Stage 3 provision has been strengthened through clearer knowledge goals and end points for all schemes of work, updated curriculum guides, and a revised PE handbook, ensuring greater consistency across the department. Health and Fitness has been refined to place stronger emphasis on physical literacy and fundamental movement skills. Meanwhile, the Key Stage 4 Core PE offering has been broadened to include tchoukball, volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, and Kin-Ball, driving a significant increase in student engagement.
Beyond the classroom, the department has expanded opportunities for physical activity and competitive representation. New clubs including speed and sprint, table tennis, skateboarding, and volleyball have enhanced an already extensive fixtures programme. Participation among Pupil Premium and SEND students has risen across extra-curricular activities. In some year groups, approximately 40% of students represented Priory in at least one fixture or competition, with inter-house events and friendly matches fostering greater inclusivity.
The department has also invested in professional development, focusing on questioning, assessment, feedback, and checking for understanding. Curriculum reviews highlighted strong improvements in whole-class questioning and the use of mini whiteboards. Collaborative working, increased monitoring, and engagement with The PTI have further strengthened subject knowledge and leadership.
Finally, the profile of PE across Priory School continues to rise, with achievements celebrated through assemblies, newsletters, and social media. Enrichment trips have further broadened students' horizons.
