90% of world forests are set to disappear in the lifetime of current school students, so forest destruction and conservation are increasingly pertinent issues.
To visually demonstrate this to students, use the Terra-i website to monitor, analyse and explain global forest loss and protected area schemes. Specifically, the useful visualisation tool allows students to interactively view land-cover changes over time, on a global scale.
Dr Mark Mulligan, King's College London, highlighted this software to Geography teachers in his talk at the New Teacher Subject Day course on Ecosystems: Water and carbon cycles. Kate Amiss, a NLG at the National College of School Leadership, recommended the practical use of the Terra-i software in classrooms.
Schools Programme members can download the resources from the event in the PTI Staffroom.
