Try calculations in base 2 as an excellent enrichment task for all abilities.
- Lower sets could add numbers in base 2 and link to binary coding
- More able groups could multiply and divide numbers in base 2, and try to use other bases too e.g. base 3, base 7.
Dawn Fox, Head of Maths at The John Warner School, suggested this teaching idea after hearing Dr Ted Graham's lecture The binary number system at our New Teacher Subject Days course in 2016.
Schools Programme members can download the resources from the event in the PTI Staffroom.
