Play Faraday's Hokey Cokey with your students to demonstrate Faraday's Law of Induction in a fun and active way:
- Connect a very long copper wire to a sensitive galvanometer
- Get your students to take positions along the wire in a circle, holding the wire
- Get them to perform the Hokey Cokey
As they perform the Hokey Cokey, an electromotive force (emf) should be induced due to the movement of the conductor in the Earth’s field, demonstrating Faraday's Law of Induction.
Alastair Cuthbertson suggested this teaching activity after leading the New Teacher Subject Day in Manchester on Energy for Physics teachers.
Schools Programme members and those who attended the New Teacher Subject Days 2015-16 can download the resources from the event in the PTI Staffroom
