Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s argument about whether to kill King Duncan is very important in understanding the character’s relationship.

Use this in the classroom by dramatising the sequence. Encourage your students to stand up, work in pairs and ask one student to portray Macbeth and the other to portray Lady Macbeth.

When your students are reading out the extract, ask them to step towards each other every time they raise a good point, and take a step away from each other when they lose ground.

Gareth Davies, Head of English at Coloma Convent Girls' School, shared this idea after a talk at our recent CPD day The character of tragedy: Macbeth and Othello at KS4-5.
